In the classic World of Warcraft there are four epic mounts a player can acquire from bosses, three of which are in raid instances and one in a normal dungeon.
Epic Mount Drop in Stratholme
Stratholme in Eastern Plaguelands is the only Classic dungeon where an epic mount can drop. A player needs to kill Baron Rivendare to acquire the ‘Deathchargers Reins’ which when clicked on gives the player Baron Rivendare’s own mount.
A level 80 player can easily solo Stratholme in a very short period of time, they could also take along level appropriate guild members for a large amount of experience. In addition, killing mobs and bosses in Stratholme will give a player reputation with the Argent Dawn, if they are not already exalted with that faction. Also advantageous is that as Stratholme is a dungeon instance, a player can come out, reset it and kill Baron Rivendare all over again.
Acquiring Baron Rivendare’s Mount will the player a Feat of Strength achievement.
Epic Mount Drop in Karazhan
The Karazhan raid instance located in Deadwind Pass will also give a lucky player an epic mount. The mount drops from the first boss in the raid: Attumen the Huntsman, who when killed has a small chance of dropping ‘Fiery Warhorses Reins’ which when clicked on will give the player Attumen the Huntsman’s Steed.
Although this boss can be soloed by a level 80 player, they will need to be in a raid group and have the key to Karazhan to enter. It is much more fun to go with a group of people as there is a lot of gold to be made in the raid, and any level appropriate players will appreciate being taken along. Unfortunately as it is a raid a player must wait until Karazhan unlocks for them to go again, making this mount very rare indeed.
All mobs and bosses killed in Karazhan will grant the player reputation with The Violet Eye. A player will also get a Feat of Strength achievement if they acquire this mount.
Epic mount farming can be good fun to do for level 80 and above players, although it does require some patience and a good group of friends; these mounts have such a low drop rate that is it unusual to see even the most seasoned players riding them. However there are other rewards to be had from farming epic mounts in the form of a lot of gold, epic loot and reputation gains.
